It's the year 2005 #pastfuturetechnology.

Sharp is a leading mobile phone manufacturer – in Japan. Just like Nokia and Ericsson are paving the way in the telephony space in Europe, Sharp is working tirelessly with the Japanese networks and business partners to push mobile technology to its limits. But innovation and progress come with a hefty price tag. Luckily for consumers in Japan, not the 7-Series.

The 703SH is an affordable mid-range Vodafone exclusive. It features 3G (WCDMA) and tri-band GSM connectivity for Global Roaming and is available across many European and Asia-Pacific markets, including Japan.

Its build quality is outstanding and comes with a crisp 2.0" QVGA (240 x 320px) display. The camera is a simple 1.3Mpx shooter, perhaps nothing to write home about, but certainly enough to capture a moment and share it via MMS with others.

Thanks to the MiniSD memory expansion support, this device turns into a capable Multimedia player. Now, this isn't something for audiophiles but will give the average phone user access to an MP3 and Video player, on a phone.

As to the success of the 703SH, I don't have any statistics that could tell me that. But in Japan, it was followed up with a Mobile Wallet successor only a few months after launch – the 703SHf (f stands for FeliCa NFC support). The 703SHf also came with minor cosmetic changes and camera improvements. Read more about it in the dedicated post to follow.
